Of course, there is no silver bullet to solve all motivation issues that might arise in organizations. But there are helpful questions to ask about people’s inner engine, when we are travelling into the unknown.
In this workshop I will provide a brief overview of the model of autonomous motivation, of its links to agility and of three approaches that can help stimulate it. Participants will benefit from putting the information provided directly into action, discussing and collaborating on possible solutions for their individual contexts.

Specifically, there are three necessary components to consider when trying to improve autonomous motivation. So, if a need for improvement is identified, it helps to be informed by the model, as it points to likely starting points to make an organization or system more conducive to motivation.
The workshop offers a setting to share challenges in helping people and teams face the unknown. It will provide the opportunity to exchange experiences concerning motivation boosters and inhibitors in complex work contexts. It will feature challenging questions that help to discuss options in a constructive yet powerful way. Also, there will be exercises to collaboratively generate ideas on how to support autonomous motivation in organizations and teams.
Scholars have described three approaches that can be used for designing an organizational context that fosters autonomous motivation. As they are helpful in providing concrete perspectives for examining contexts, their components are offered as ideation igniters.
As a result, participants will take away insights, ideas and perspectives on how to enhance organizational culture to make it more resilient in the face of the unknown. They will have a better understanding of why working according to the values of agile software development is a key enabler for teams dealing with complexity and how to steer (more) into that direction. They will know about autonomous motivation, how this inner engine is fueled and what it can do for the work context. They will have insights on what this means for individuals, how it effects the work in teams and what leaders should know, so they can provide the right settings.
Since the workshop is designed according to the model, participants will broaden their knowledge and connect with others and I will provide a few suggestions for everyone, on how to grease that inner engine for themselves.
