The Agile Fluency Model (agilefluency.com), first published in 2011 by James Shore and Diana Larsen, describes four stages for achieving agile team proficiency: focus on value, deliver value, optimize value, and optimize the system. When adopting agile in successive stages the model delivers benefits proportional to investments. The model fosters the identification, adaption and adoption of agile practices appropriate to the team’s context and objectives.
Now I am working with Jim and Diana and others to uncover concrete and practical ways to use the Agile Fluency Model to create best-fit strategies for growing skills and practices that for the team and the organisation investing in the team. In a sense this is developing a unique roadmap for each organisation which will allow you to create a strategy to invest in growing the skills and practices you really need in order to develop Agile that works. Participants will take away the elements of this roadmap – along with a deeper understanding of how to use it – in order to begin applying this with their organisation or in their coaching.
This is a big change from the theoretical/informational talk I delivered last year to some enthusiastic audience members at OOP2015. This session is extremely hands-on and interactive. I will spend about 15 minutes covering the model itself. The rest of the time will be devoted to working with the participants to identify and map the development of specific skills and practices that help teams develop fluent proficiency.
